SUAREZ REJECTED ATLETICO IN 2014 – GODIN

Diego Godin has revealed that national team colleague Luis Suarez could have joined Atletico Madrid six years earlier. Cagliari defender Godin disclosed this in a chat with reporters at the Uruguay camp ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Venezuela. It was revealed that Luis Suarez could have become an Atletico Madrid player in 2014.

Godin said he spoke to Suarez about joining him at Atletico Madrid when he wanted to leave Merseyside giants Liverpool. The veteran centre back said Suarez choose Barcelona and that he was right. He also revealed how the club called him when Suarez wanted to join Atletico Madrid last summer and six years on from him moving to Barcelona ahead of Atletico Madrid.

SUAREZ: ATLETICO WILL FIGHT FOR THE TITLE TILL THE END

The Spanish La Liga title race is expected to go down the wire this season and it’s very tricky trying to guess who would end up being crowned Champions of the country’s league title. However, Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez has claimed that he and his club will do anything and fight till the last day of the season to ensure that they emerge as Champions.

At the start of the season, Atletico were flying high and started the campaign on the front foot as they took advantage of the slip-ups of their rivals. Both Barcelona and Real Madrid endured some bumpy start to the season and Atletico, on the other hand, were having themselves a brilliant campaign in the process.

ATLETICO CONSIDERING SUAREZ SWAP DEAL

Spanish La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering a swap deal for leading goalscorer Luis Suarez amidst the transfer rumours of a move back to Liverpool for the Uruguayan international striker. According to the report from Sports Mole, Atletico Madrid would try to sign Liverpool attacker Roberto Firminoif the Merseyside giants succeed with the quest to re-sign Luis Suarez.

Luis Suarez was a Liverpool player for over four years before he left the club to join Spanish La Liga giants Barcelona in the summer of 2015 for a then club-record fee of £75m. The Uruguayan player was at Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam before the Reds signed him for around £21m in January 2011.

Juventus Still Interested In Suarez And Could Get Him In The Summer

Juventus manager Andrea Pirlo is reportedly still very much interested in the possibility of signing Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez and will have another shot at recruiting him in the summer. Pirlo was vividly interested in signing the Uruguayan forward after he was deemed surplus to requirements by Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman and was asked to leave the club.

After quitting Barcelona, Suarez had quite a couple of clubs who were interested in snapping him up and Juventus were one of those clubs. He came very close to joining the Old Lady in the summer transfer window but a deal between the player and the Italian Serie A outfit never materialized due to some contractual disagreements. However, according to the latest reports making the rounds, Juventus will be returning for him in the summer.

            Koeman Says It Would Have Been Better If Suarez Moved To Juve Instead

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has admitted that it would have been a much better scenario if the club’s former striker Luis Suarez sealed a move out of the Spanish La Liga and to Juventus instead. The Uruguayan striker was forced out of Barca after he was deemed surplus to requirements at the club by current boss Koeman and the striker joined Barca’s rivals Atletico Madrid.

Suarez has been on fire for the Rojiblancos since signing for them in the summer and is the current leading top scorer in the La Liga. He has also powered Diego Someone’s side to the top of the Spanish Laiga table and is not looking like he will be slowing down anytime soon. Read more…
