Liverpool legend urges Mohamed Salah to avoid what Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres did

Liverpool legend Ian Rush has urged Mohamed Salah to stay put with the club for the long-term unlike Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres, who pursued big-money moves elsewhere. The Egypt international has enjoyed an impressive 18 months since making the switch from AS Roma and he is currently the go-to man in the Reds’ frontline.

In a report covered by The Liverpool Echo, Rush highlighted that the attacker may not match the 44-goal tally from the previous campaign, given the defenders have begun tracking him much closely. However, the Reds great believes the Egyptian would still have a better season compared to the last, should the club end their wait for a maiden Premier League crown, he said: “On a personal level he might not achieve what he did last season, but if he scores 30 goals and Liverpool win the title he’s had an even better season.”

Meanwhile, there has recently been speculation linking Salah with a potential move to Real Madrid but Rush feels the 26-year-old should remain with the Reds for the long-term and become a club great, he added:“People talk about Torres and Suarez, they were great players but they weren’t around long enough. I want Mo to stick around for a lot longer than them and become a true legend here.”

The speculation regarding Salah had started during the summer transfer window with Real Madrid eyeing reinforcement with the expected departure of Ronaldo. However, the Reds acted prior to that by handing the attacker with a new long-term contract with a significant wage hike and he has since remained committed to the club’s cause with 19 goals across all competitions. Liverpool are currently holding a four-point lead at the top of the table but they have a glorious chance to extend the lead further over second-placed Manchester City, should they overcome Leicester City with the game in hand.
