ATLETICO HANDED MASSIVE BOOST FOR DERBY

Spanish champions Atletico Madrid have been handed a big boost on the injury front following the news that star striker Luis Suarez has returned to training in time for the Madrid Derby clash with in-form Real Madrid who are the pacesetters on the La Liga table this season.

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has had to deal with a lot of injury issues and suspensions in recent weeks. However, it looks like there’s light at the end of the tunnel for him with some of his players returning from injury.

Simeone and Atletico Madrid were tested in the Champions League during the week when they won a crucial game with one central defender to secure a knockout stage spot. Atletico Madrid had Spaniard Mario Hermoso as their only fit centre back ahead of the Champions League clash at FC Porto in Group B. In the end, they were able to seal a 3-1 win at the home of the Portuguese giants to move above them and into the top two places thanks to the goals from Antoine Griezmann, Angel Correa and Rodrigo De Paul. The Spanish champions finished second at the end of proceedings in Group B and it was enough to bag a place in the Champions League knockout stage.

Since the Porto game, Atletico Madrid manager Simeone has been receiving good news on the injury front. Firstly, it was the return of Jose Maria Gimenezfrom injury. The Uruguayan international is widely regarded as the bestcentral defender at Atletico Madrid and he’s in line to return to the starting XI for the Real Madridgame on Sunday. He has returned to Atletico Madrid training in time for the game. Secondly, Luis Suarez has followed compatriot Jose Maria Gimenez in returning to training in time for the Madrid Derby. He went off with an injury after 13 minutes against FC Porto and his teammates were ableto seal a Champions League round of 16 spot in his absence. Luis Suarez is now expected to feature against Real Madrid after recovering from the aforementioned injury.
