Alberto Aquilani has signed for a foreign club

Once again Alberto Aquilani has signed for a foreign club and once again, the injuries are starting to hamper him.

He is set to have to sit out of what could have been his debut game for the Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon which he has signed for only recently.

The 31-year old was probably to be handed a substitute appearance in the upcoming games versus Tondela, but, it’s not going to be now as the reports suggest he has injured himself.

The last time Aquilani had made his way away from Italy was in 2009 when he was signed by Liverpool and the only season that he spent there, he remained plagued with injuries all through.

He was back in Italy for the next two seasons playing for two different clubs on loan before he took a permanent transfer to Fiorentina.

So, he has spent almost his entire career playing in Italy barring that one season at Anfield and in that very season, his body suffered a lot of blows.

And, his time at Lisbon seems to have started on the same note.

Aquilani would be desperately hoping that the history doesn’t get repeated.

The 31-year old, who is not at the peak of his skills and approaching his downhill, would like to have a smooth run at Lisbon before he hangs his boots.

So far over his career, Aquilani has played 388 games for various clubs and has scored 39 goals.

He has also played a bit of Football at the international level, 38 to be exact for Italy.

His last appearance in Italy jersey came last year in one of the World Cup qualifiers.

He did not get the opportunity to feature in any of the games of the main World Cup tournament despite being in Italian squad.
